Meal Planning Wikipage

I have set up a wikipage to help us plan the school meal.

Members can email me for edit rights, so that you can update all of us on what you are bringing.  The wikipage is meant as a place where you can post ideas and discuss what we will do for the harvest meal.  It can be anything from recipes to lists of equipment and food people are bringing.

Harvest Meal

We have a meal planned for this Thursday, September 20, 2012 in the staff room after school.  We will make some delicious food from some of the food we have harvested.  Here is a tentative menu:

Roasted yukon gold potatoes
Roasted garlic on french bread
Grilled steak marinated and topped with chimichurri sauce
Grilled beans
Grilled carrots
New Zealand spinach

We will cook the meal together after school in the staff room.  There will be quite a bit of prep work to do before we eat, and you might learn some cooking skills.  I will also need some help the day before the meal preparing some of the food.

I'll post more details later this week.

Sept. 11 New Members!

We turned and broke the buckwheat down last week.
The box seems to be ready!
Planning to plant the fall rye on Thursday.

See! New members work really hard!

Today, many new members came and joined our garden maintenance session. They are very energetic and diligent. Brian gave them a tour in the garden and they seem to be quite interested in what we are doing. So glad to see these young students today. Hope they can lead the club in the future!

September Harvest Meal

I was considering whether we might like to have a meal from the food we harvest in September.  It looks like we will have lots of potatoes and beans as well as carrots to eat. Some options could include having steak with chimi-cheri sauce made from the parsley, garlic and oregano now we have as well as mashed potatoes.  Beans and carrots could be the vegetable part of the meal. I make pretty good mashed potatoes if I do say so myself. Another nice idea would be to have roasted garlic spread over French bread.

This meal would be after school and would require a fair amount of preparation.  If we made this a full meal, we probably would not be eating until after 4:30. But I think it would be a lot of fun to prepare. And I think we could make a fairly gourmet meal.

Anyways let me know what you think by leaving comments after this message.
